Verbose Profile of Danny O. Snow,
Harvard College, Class of 1978:

Danny O. Snow is an author-publisher, journalist, and longtime proponent of new technologies that empower writers to reach readers -- and vice versa -- more directly.

He was born on January 3, 1957 in New York City.

Raised by Harry David and Jeanne L. Snow in Forest Hills, NY. Parents were notable theatrical performers in their time, appearing in many Broadway musicals and on television. Command Performance for John F. Kennedy in 1962 highlighted father's career. Throughout his childhood, young Danny appeared in television commercials, radio and print advertising. In 1969 he performed in the Broadway musical Mame at the Winter Garden Theatre.

Attended high school at Culver Military Academy (Indiana) 1970-74. Editor of "QUILL" literary magazine. Solo pilot certificate from aviation program.

Attended Harvard College 1974-79. Active in theatre and creative writing. During leave of absense 1976-77 worked in NYC as promotional writer for The Film Foundry Corporation and the Vocal Arts Foundation. Returned to Harvard in 1977. Graduated 1979, but remained affiliated with his entry Class of 1978.

Worked as freelance writer and sales representative for a publisher of alumni directories and newsletters from 1980-82. Served as managing editor from 1982-86, before becoming the youngest vice president in the firm's history in 1986.

Founded Snow & Associates in 1988, a research firm "dedicated to helping educational, fraternal and professional institutions maintain better information about their alumni, communicate more effectively with them, and relocate those who are lost." S&A became one of the world's first Internet-based research consortia and sponsor of The ARCH Project. Snow was listed in Who's Who in American Education in 1992 as S&A's founder and executive director.

Lived in Las Vegas 1990-93, while beginning a second career as a session vocalist in area recording studios, a singer in nightclubs and show lounges, and as an actor in feature films and network TV.

Returned to NYC in 1993 to study voice at the Vocal Arts Foundation on a full scholarship. Appeared as Laertes in Hamlet on the Beach at NADA's 'Hamlet Festival,' called "the best theatre, and the best thing for theatre, running downtown this season" by Robert Simonson of TheatreWeek. Produced and co-directed several productions of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas at venues including NYC's 13th Street Theatre, Lycoming College, and Barnes & Noble's in-store performance space at Lincoln Center.

In 1997, he left show business to resume a full-time career in new publishing media. He served as director of communications and planning during the startup of "1stBooks.com," an early e-book publisher that subsequently became a leading player in the booming "print-on-demand" (POD) book publishing industry. Snow left 1stBooks in 2000, after it became a vanity press. 1stBooks was later sold and re-named "AuthorHouse," then re-sold to "Author Solutions," now claiming tens of thousands of book titles in print.

In 1999, he co-authored a book about new publishing technologies with self-publishing guru Dan Poynter, titled U-Publish.com: How 'U' Can Effectively Compete with the Giants of Publishing. The book, now in its fourth edition, is carried by all major booksellers.

Since March 2000, Snow has served as manager of Unlimited Publishing LLC, a high-tech producer of "print on demand" books, specializing in bringing back out-of-print books formerly from major publishers.

In 2002, he published his second book, titled Steal this e-Book!, an irreverent collection of previously published articles and letters about electronic publishing and rights.

In 2008, Snow was named a senior fellow of The Society for New Communications Research (Palo Alto, California, USA), "a nonprofit global think tank dedicated to the advanced study of new and emerging media," and their impact on people, schools, businesses and governments around the world.

In 2009, he was signed by Wiley & Sons, creators of the popular 'Dummies' book series, as a contributor to its upcoming Print on Demand for Dummies book, in collaboration with the Book Industry Study Group. He was also elected to the board of directors of The Independent Book Publishers Assocation. IBPA is the world's largest trade association of indie publishers, serving 3,500+ publishing firms across North America.

Snow has been widely quoted about new publishing technologies by major news media across the nation, including AP, NPR, UPI, The Los Angeles Times, Publishers Weekly, The Wall Street Journal, the nationally syndicated "Ask Heloise" radio program, VoiceAmerica and many more.

He has also served as a contributing editor for BookTech: The Magazine for Publishers and as a panelist and moderator at national publishing industry events such as Book Expo America, "PrintMedia" Conferences sponsored by the North American Publishing Company, the Independent Book Publishers' Association's "Publishing University" and others.

Snow is active as an animal advocate in his community, an avid horseman, downhill skier and tennis player. He has served on the board of directors for Windfall Dancers, Inc. and UJ-80, a 501(c)3 public foundation that houses fraternal groups on Big Ten campuses. His personal interests include wildlife, outdoor sports, gardening, and of course books.
